Orton-Gillingham Educator Trainings

OG Training: Green River Literacy offers training accredited by The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified levels as well as supervision of Fellows-in-Training.  Trainings are carefully tailored to a school’s existing curriculum, philosophy, and pedagogy, while enhancing teacher effectiveness and mode of delivery. Training has been offered in many diverse settings, including public schools, and independent schools as well as clinical settings.

Please see below for details regarding each specific level of OG Educator Training offered by Green River Literacy.


CLASSROOM EDUCATOR TRAINING
The Classroom Educator level training is a 30-hour course that is appropriate for teachers who work with classrooms or small-groups, who don't plan to work with students one-on-one.
The Classroom Educator Level Practicum includes:
• 50 hours of classroom or small group instruction over at minimum 8 months
• 5 hours of observation with feedback from course trainers


Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will be eligible to apply to the AOGPE for certification at the Classroom Educator level

ASSOCIATE LEVEL TRAINING
The Associate level training is a 65-hour course appropriate for both one-on-one practitioners and teachers who work with groups.

Course topics include:
 • Administration of informal diagnostic assessments
 • Creating O-G lesson plans
 • Neurological underpinning of dyslexia and the needs of dyslexic learners
 • Phonological awareness
 • Sound-symbol relations
 • Reliable spelling patterns
 • Syllable structure of the English language
 • Morphemic statue of the English language
 • Diagnostic-prescriptive teaching
 • Research-based multisensory, direct and systematic instruction that can transfer to a classroom setting
 • Handwriting instruction
 • Vocabulary instruction
 • Basic comprehension skills
 • Preparing the application to the AOGPE for Associate level certification

The Associate Level Practicum includes:
• 100 hours of 1-1 tutoring over the course of at least 8 months
• 10 hours of observation with feedback from course trainers


Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will be eligible to Apply to the AOGPE for certification at the Associate level
 & Request graduate credit for this course


CERTIFIED LEVEL MODULES I & II
The Certified level training is a 100-hour course that qualifies individuals as independent practitioners of the Orton-Gillingham Approach.
Course topics include:

 • Knowledge of dyslexia and reading disabilities
 • Review of basic phonology and handwriting instruction
 • Case management and professional communications
 • Formal and informal assessment measures
 • Understanding and interpretation of standardized testing
 • Student profile and matching lesson plan
 • Knowledge of methods and programs derived from OG
 • The stages of words attack and adapting the OG lesson plan
 • Review of phonology, phonics, and handwriting instruction• Study of morphology and advanced elements of the language• Exploration of the systematic, structured writing process• Teaching of vocabulary, comprehension, pragmatics, and study skills • AOGPE Code of Ethics


The Certified Level Practicum includes:
• 200 hours of classroom or small group instruction over at minimum 2 academic years
• 10 hours of observation with feedback from course trainers


Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will be eligible to apply to the AOGPE for certification at the Certified level
